Rigging & Splicing
Dyneema Splicing & Rigging
Precision Dyneema splicing for running rigging, standing rigging, and custom rope solutions. We work with the strongest, lightest materials on the water — cut-splice, eye-splice, and everything in between.
On-boat rigging setup, pre-race checks, and performance tuning for serious racing programs. We understand what it takes to get you to the start line fast and stay there.
A curated selection of watersport equipment, rigging tools, and specialist gear — sourced for performance, chosen for reliability. Everything you need on and off the water.
An experienced offshore and inshore crew with a track record at the highest level — and the technical knowledge to keep the boat sorted when it counts.
Our lifestyle clothing line is built for people who live around the ocean. Clean cuts, technical fabrics, and a Newport sensibility — from the race course to the dock bar.
Having someone onboard who understands rope, hardware, and how a boat is put together isn't just useful — it's a genuine advantage. Whether something breaks, a block needs coaxing, or a line needs re-leading mid-race, the ability to fix it fast and get back to sailing is what separates a smooth program from a stressful one.
Beyond the technical side, I'm an experienced offshore and inshore crew with years of racing at a high level — comfortable in any position, quick on the foredeck, and used to working in tight, high-load situations.

The Yard
A Place to Tinker Together.
Newport Buoyancy is more than a service — it's a gathering point. We're building a space where sailors, riggers, and anyone who gets excited pulling apart a boat at the dock can come together, share knowledge, and work on projects side by side.

What I specialise in
Eye Splices & Cover Splices
Clean, load-bearing eye splices and tapered cover splices for halyards, sheets, and anchor lines. Dyneema chafe sleeve can be added over covered eyes to protect against wear, improve abrasion resistance, and reduce friction over turns and through blocks.
Lock Strops, Bumped Halyards & Mainsheets
Custom splicing applications for racing boats — from bumped halyards that run clean through clutches to lock strops and mainsheets built for load and speed.
Loops, Dogbones, Soft Shackles & Strops
Custom connections suited to the application required. Much lighter than metal hardware with endless configurations — from soft shackles aloft to strops and dogbones for deck hardware.
Running Rigging Suites
Full running rigging replacements for racing programs — halyards, sheets, outhauls, cunninghams, and more.
Custom Lengths & Colours
Every line cut and spliced to the exact specification of your boat. Available in a range of Dyneema SK75 and SK99 constructions.
Past Projects
Work From the Bench
Project writeups and examples coming soon — this section will be filled with photos, specs, and stories from past rigging work.
From the day before a race to a full season of support — we work around what your program needs. Here are some of the ways we get involved.
What we do on racing boats
Hardware Servicing
From inspections to full overhauls, we can find ways to improve the mechanics of the yacht. Blocks, clutches, travellers, furlers — if it moves on the boat, we can assess it, service it, and get more out of it.
Halyard & Sheet Reeler Optimization
Well-oiled reelers are critical to boathandling performance. We can make sure you're getting the most out of yours — and can also install and set up your boat for reelers if you're not already running them.
Bungee Takeups & Control Line Organization
Helping to keep the noodle soup out of the cockpit. A clean boat is key for racing without hiccups — we'll sort your takeup systems and get your lines organized so everything runs where it should.
Control Systems Upgrades
Make sure you're adjusting your controls efficiently and effectively — whether that's adding fine and coarse tune options, or getting controls led to windward so they can be trimmed from the rail.
Rig Tuning
A straight mast and a properly tensioned rig are the foundation everything else is built on. We'll go through your shroud tensions, forestay sag, spreader angles, and mast bend to make sure the rig is set up correctly for your boat and the conditions you're sailing in.
Canvas & DCF Work for Race Boats
Whether it's furler and swivel covers, sheet bags, or pockets downstairs to hold a few crucial tools — we can make it happen. Clean, functional, and built for the boat it's going on.
